Each summer, more than 23,000 scouts travel from all corners of the US and abroad to participate in the rich backcountry program and trekking opportunities available at Philmont Scout Ranch. 35 staffed backcountry camps scattered throughout the 140,171-acre facility provide assorted programs ranging from rock climbing to horseback riding to mine tours and living history. Since 1939, Philmont programs have attracted more than 1 million participants. The Philmont property also serves as the national training center for the Boy Scouts of America.
Philmont hires more than 1,100 summer staff to support backcountry programs, food service, retail operations, the Philmont Training Center, maintenance, conservation, ranching, medical services and administrative positions. The majority of contracts coincide with the summer season, from late May through mid-August. Base salaries begin at over $1,100/mo and room/board is included with all contracts.

Those who are selected to serve as members of Scouting's premier High Adventure Base and volunteer-training conference center will serve thousands of Scouts, leaders and family members. The information in this section will answer many of your questions and help you prepare for the upcoming season.
