New Mexico Fishing License
Lakes and streams provide fishing opportunities across Philmont's backcountry. At several backcountry camps, trained staff facilitate fly fishing programs for thousands of participants each summer.
Do I need a fishing license?

- Youth 13-17 years old: Yes. You may purchase a special Philmont Youth 10-Day fishing license at the Tooth of Time Traders in base camp, or at certain backcountry camps. If you'd like, you may purchase a NM Youth Annual License instead (not available in the backcountry).

All prices include a mandatory $4.00 Habitat Mangement access stamp and a $1.00 vendor fee. All Annual Licenses begin April 1 and end March 31. Licenses can be purchased online through the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish website, but we recommend that you purchase your license here at Philmont to ensure that the dates of your license correspond to the dates fishing will be available on your trek.
*If you would like to purchase a NM fishing license at the Tooth of Time Traders in base camp, you may choose to register for a Customer Identification Number (CIN). This will allow Philmont staff to process a fishing license for you more quickly using your driver's license as identification.
